Valeta Fern Harman Nelson Lindamood was born on September 30, 1927 to Harold Francis and Goldie Mary Bowlin Harman near the small town of Kechi, Kansas. She had a brother, Merlin, who died as an infant. Her family lived on a small farm for some time before moving into Wichita. She was raised in a loving home sometimes sharing with extended family. Valeta worked at Woolworth’s in downtown Wichita while attending North High School. Soon after high school, she met Eldon Nelson. They married November 10, 1946 and they moved to his family farm in rural Viola. She was a farm wife through and through. She learned to run the combine so that she wouldn’t have to drive the wheat trucks to the elevator and drive through the “little opening” to dump the wheat. Valeta pitched in with all the farm work and prepared huge harvest time meals for everyone working in the fields. Eldon passed away August 28, 2010. She married Dean Lindamood on May 14, 2011. Dean passed away on June 28, 2020.
Valeta was a loving Mother to her daughter, Anita, a wonderful mother-in-law to Don and a caring Grandmother to Matt and Garrett. She always wanted to make sure everyone had whatever they needed and was always the last one to sit down to eat and the first one to get up to retrieve whatever was needed. She extended her love to her great-grandchildren and then to her great-great grandchildren. Her home was always open to her five nieces and nephews as well.
Valeta was a 50 year member of The Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of Anti Can’t Club and a member of the Clearwater First Christian Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita, son-in-law, Don, grandsons, Matt (Jennifer) McMillan and Garrett McMillan; great-grandchildren, Emily McMillan, Whitney McMillan, Dakota Bowman, Alec Beasley, Jake Stephen, Katie Deatherage, Larissa Beasley and Cody Beasley; great-great grandchildren, Amelia, Killian, Stella, Tahliah, and Carter; nieces, Rose and Vonda and nephews, Don, John, and Lary; brother-in-law, Melvin Nelson.
A memorial is established with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
