Ulla F. (Roads) Swenson
age 101, retired clerical worker, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020. Visitation, 9am-7pm, Thursday, February 27, with family present 5:30-7pm, at Shinkle Mortuary, Haysville. Memorial Service, 2pm, Friday, February 28, at Calvary Baptist Church, Derby.
Ulla was born August 6, 1918 to Ben and Della Roads, who owned a farm between Wichita and Augusta. She grew up and was educated in a rural school that taught only 8th graders. The teacher taught her further and she graduated with a 9th grade education. She went on to graduate high school and business college. Ulla married Edward Clem Harper and had five children. Two of her children passed away at an early age; Gary, who lived to age five and James, who lived three days.
She is preceded in death by two husbands, Edward Harper and Oscar Swenson; sons, Gary and James Harper; parents, Benjamin and Emma (Dennett) Roads; siblings, Leo, Everett, Verna and Glen Roads.
Ulla is survived by three children, Charles (Theresa) Harper of Wichita, Joyce Mann of Haysville and Ronald Harper of Wichita; 10 grandchildren, Samuel Seifert, Susan (Rod) Kruse, Barry (Glenda) Seifert, Jennifer Marker and Scott, Diane Besson, Ronda Frazier, Patrick (Leta) Harper, Charla (Tom) Liss, Jeffrey (Jodie) Harper and Michael Harper; 25 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren.
