Terry Gene Whitesell, born February 14, 1955, in Wichita, KS passed away Saturday, October 10 in Wichita.
He was born on February 14, 1955, in Wichita, KS to Betty and James Whitesell. He grew up on the farm in Clearwater with his five siblings until moving to Wichita in the 11th grade. He attended Wichita West High School but stayed active in the Clearwater community for much of his life.
While living in Wichita, he attended night school at Wichita State with his older brother, Jimmy Dale, while working on the line at Cessna. After graduating with an accounting degree, he was able to change roles and began working in finance at Cessna.
While living in Wichita, Terry met and eventually married the girl next door, Kelly Rudrow, in 1979. The two lived and worked in Wichita, always hanging out with friends and family. To many, Terry and Kelly became honorary aunt and uncle through their constant love and support.
The couple welcomed, and sadly lost their first son, Jacob, in 1990. Alex came a year later in 1991 and Hannah a few years later in 1995.
Terry was always active in the lives of those around him. From being a DQ judge and timer at the kids’ swim meets, to leading children’s church, Sunday school, and various Bible studies through Westwood Presbyterian and Bible Study Fellowship in Wichita.
Working at Cessna took the Whitesell’s to Independence, KS for a few years where Terry’s big personality helped to make quick friends that have lasted a lifetime. He remained involved in church through First Presbyterian Independence, serving at church and in the community.
Cessna moved Terry back to Wichita in 2002 where he worked until he retired in 2011. Terry welcomed Hilary and Cuyler in the family with lots of teasing.
In 2018, Terry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Full of joy and faith, Terry fought Parkinson’s. He attended Rock Steady Boxing and Club Parkinson’s which provided community, support, and wellness.
Terry’s health declined unexpectedly and rapidly. He was surrounded by community, family, and friends the last week of his life. Terry’s new body is now rejoicing in heaven.
A service will be held October 17 at 10:00 am at Westwood Presbyterian, 8007 W. Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209.
