Shirley Y. (Hand) Munkres

Clearwater-  Shirley Y. (Hand) Munkres, age 85, ret. cosmetologist, mother, grandmother,  and sister, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018.

Visitation, Noon-7pm, Friday, December 14th, with family present, 5:30-7pm. Services, 1pm, Saturday, December 15th, BOTH at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel.

Shirley was born on Tuesday, July 18, 1933 in Ames, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of three children born to Benton Franklen Hand and Grace Melvina (Williamson) Hand. She was united in marriage to Billy Gene Munkres on June 27, 1953. They were married in the living room of the farm home in Ames. Oklahoma. Bill and Shirley moved to Wichita in 1953 where he had a job at Boeing and worked there for 40 years. They moved to Clearwater in 1992. Shirley was a great homemaker, mother, cook, seamstress, and all the things that are needed to be a good mother to 4 children and a good husband. She was a member of the Ninnescah Chapter #423 in Clearwater, KS. Shirley loved to knit, crochet, cross-stitch and travel. She enjoyed lake trips, boating and fishing.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Billy; parents, Benton and Grace (Williamson) Hand. Survivors: son, Terrill (Susan) Munkres, Conroe, TX; daughters, Susan (Greg) Downing, Augusta, Sherrie (Tom) Sternberger, Wichita, Terrie Clark, Clearwater; brothers, Keith Hand and Rodney Hand; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
