Pete (Pedro) Montanez, age 87, passed away on September 1, 2026.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Escopulas and Dolores Montanez, and his siblings, Mary, Gloria, Florencia, Martha, Dorothy, and Carlos Montanez.

He is survived by Gayle Montanez, his wife of 46 years; his children, Monica Montanez, Cindy Murphy (Michael), Abraham Montanez; his granddaughter, Kara Pratt; and his siblings, Skippy and Victor Montanez.

Pete was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country from 1958 to 1962. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career at Cessna Aircraft. He worked there for more than 40 years as an electrical engineer, contributing his skills and expertise to numerous aircraft across the Cessna line before retiring.

Away from work, Pete enjoyed a lifelong passion for golf and played on courses near and far. He also loved spending time in his personal workshop, where his talent, determination, and craftsmanship came to life. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing and building his dream home in Clearwater, Kansas, by hand during his days off from Cessna.

Above all, family was at the heart of Pete’s life. He devoted himself to providing for and protecting those he loved, including his family and close circle of friends. He will be remembered for his dedication, ingenuity, strength, and steadfast love for the people who meant the most to him.

Pete’s legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, the aircraft he helped create, and the home he built with his own hands. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
