Margaret (Wolf) Toombs, age 95, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026.

Rosary, 7pm, Thursday, April 9 at Shinkle Mortuary, Haysville. Funeral Mass, 10am, Friday, April 10, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Haysville.

Margaret was born on January 20, 1931 on the family farm in Gresham, Nebraska. She was delivered by the family doctor, Dr. Miller, and her aunt, Alma Hermon, the midwife. She spent her childhood on the farm surrounded by her beloved animals, cats, dogs and horses.

Margaret taught at Huckberry School, the country school, for three years. She went to airline school in Omaha, Nebraska and from there went to work at Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Margaret then went to York, Nebraska to work for DeKalb Seed and Corn Company.

Margaret married Tom Toombs on July 4, 1954. They moved to Derby, Kansas where Margaret would spend the rest of her life. She and Tom built a lovely country home. On weekends she would attend and show her horse at the local shows. Later Margaret joined the Kansas Horse Association where she held various positions including Board of Directors. She joined the International Side saddle Association where she was one of the ten best in the West riders.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John T. “Tom” Toombs; daughter, Jennifer Simmons; parents, Carl and Alma Wolf; sisters, Florence Heidtbrink, Fern Nuttleman and Ruth Gloystein. She is survived by her children, Jon (Bonnie) Toombs of Augusta, Jan (Dave) Wesley of Derby, Jeff Toombs of Topeka; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
