Jackie "Jack" Lee Haivala

July 18, 1946 — April 28, 2022

Clearwater

Jackie Lee Haivala was born July 18, 1946 in Seattle WA to William Leroy (Joe) Haivala and Eula Maxine (Browder) Haivala. He drew his final breath April 28, 2022, while mowing his grass. Jack attended South High School in Wichita, KS. He joined the U.S Navy on August 31, 1965 with his buddy Paul Christman. He was an engine mechanic and a graduate of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration School. His son, Michael, was born while Jack was serving in Vietnam and he got an early release. He reenlisted and served a total of 14 years. He served in Waterloo, IA and then in Naples, Italy where son Shawn was born. After discharge from the Navy, the family settled in Wichita, KS near families. Jack became a sheet metal installer and loved doing new home construction. After his divorce, Jack met Joyce at country dance lessons in 1988. Jack was the DJ and taught dance lessons at the South Side Fellowship during those early years. Joyce and Jack were married on June 5, 1992. Jack retired from sheet metal work after neck and rotator cuff surgeries. He started his own lawn care business and retired at the end of 2021. Jack loved working in the yard. He really wanted a “perfect yard”. But mostly he loved Joyce and doing anything and everything to help her. He loved her family as his own. Jack celebrated 32 years of sobriety in March and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a member of the Clearwater United Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Council 6 years. Among the many who will grieve his passing are his wife, Joyce Brown Haivala, sons, Michael (Michelle), their daughter, Jami, Shawn (Amanda), grandchildren, Joseph Haivala, Naomi Haivala, daughter-in-law, Mary Haivala, siblings, Linda (Chet) Tunison, Larry (Loretta) Haivala, Dick (Carol) McCool, step-family, Mitch (Angela) Brown, Marty (Brianna) Brown, granddaughters Leslie, Shay and Addison Brown and Lenae Cupps. Nieces, Chandra, Dawn, Katie, and Tami.
