Irene (Miller) Reid

Irene (Miller) Reid, age 88, passed away, Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Memorial Service, 11am, Tuesday, March 29, at Community Bible Chapel, 4551 Auburn St., Bel Aire, KS.

She was born February 26, 1933 in Christiansburg, IA to John Martin and Lois Naomi Miller. Irene married Laurance (Larry) Reid on April 24, 1954 while he was home on a three day pass from the Army.  They were married in Unionville, IA.

A 1951 graduate of Ottumwa High School.  Irene was a home maker and loving mother of her four children.  While living in Iowa and South Dakota she hosted 5 day clubs where she taught Bible lessons to neighborhood children.  She often helped with Vacation Bible School and Christmas programs at Calvary Baptist in Ottumwa, and Eastside Baptist in Sioux Falls.  In South Dakota she and Larry had a bus route together picking up children and adults for church.  In every city they lived in, she and Larry were faithful to God’s house and God’s work.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Derby, KS but for health reasons had been attending the nearby Community Bible Chapel in Bel Aire. She enjoyed tole painting on saw blades and various wooden pieces that Larry made up for her.

Surviving are her children.  Dan (Paula) Reid of Ottumwa, IA, Lissa (Thomas) Montgomery of Mexico City, Mexico, Evangeline (Mike) Raab of Wichita, and Heather (Dan) Pentimone of Conway, AR.  Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Eva Miller of Marion, IA, Jane Anderson of Pella, IA, Edith Dill of Cottonwood, CA; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Roscoe Martin “Buddy” Miller and her husband, Larry.
