Frank James Kutilek was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 14, 1930 to Frank and Louise Kutilek, and departed this life on January 29, 2020, at the home of his daughter Karen Logue in Norman, Oklahoma, at age 89 years, one month and 15 days.

Frank graduated from North High School, Wichita, in 1948 and from the University of Wichita in 1953.  He earned the degree Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas in 1957.  He interned at Wesley Hospital, Wichita.

Having joined ROTC while at the University of Wichita, Frank met his active duty obligation by serving in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon, attaining the rank of Captain.  All four years of active duty, 1957-1961, were served at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita.

While still in the Air Force, Frank began practice as a family physician (“snot nose, dandruff and itch” he often called it), opening an office in the Westlink Shopping Center in 1958.  He was the first Wichita doctor to open a practice west of the Big Ditch. He retired from medicine in 1993.  He lived after retirement for 9 years in Wichita, for 15 years in Houston, Texas and the last 2 years in Norman, Oklahoma.

Frank was married in 1949 to Ruth Johnston (who died in 1993) and to this union were born five children—Kandace Ruth, Frank James III, Douglas Kent, Karen Lou and Kenneth George.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Don, son Ken, grandson J.W., 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is survived by children Kandy Thompson (Paul) of Houston, Texas; Dr. Frank J. Kutilek III, DO (Dianne) of Cheney, Kansas; Rev. Doug Kutilek (Naomi) of Clearwater, Kansas, and Karen Logue (Duane) of Norman, Oklahoma, and by 18 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He will be buried in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.
