David Kerley, 68 of Mulvane, KS passed away on January 14, 2023, at the University of KS Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, from 5 – 7 PM at Shinkle Mortuary in Haysville, KS. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 11 AM at Council Hill Cemetery, Peck, KS.
David was born in Wichita on Jan. 26, 1954. He graduated from Mulvane High School (class of 1972), then Lubbock Christian University (majoring in Animal Science and Business) and lived most of his life in the Peck and Mulvane area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlin and Mary Kerley. He is survived by his wife, Dana of Mulvane, KS; his brother, Edwin Kerley (Suzanne) of Leawood, KS; niece, Paige Kerley of Dallas, Texas; and nephew Mason Kerley, of Leawood, KS. David is also survived by his mother-in-law, Elena Zamfir; sister-in-law Corina Tudorache; brother-in-law, Julian Tudorache and nephew, Christian Tudorache, all in Romania. In 2006, through miraculous circumstances, Dave became acquainted with the love of his life, Dana. Though miles separated them, they forged a relationship culminating with their wedding on Oct. 1, 2008 in Wichita, KS. Together they shared Dave’s love of everything related to the outdoors: riding horses, hunting, guns and being with friends who shared these passions. Examples of Dave’s life-long passions include his livestock judging experience, employment at Gander RV where he led a team that was not only dedicated to customer service but technical and tactical excellence in all things firearms and firearm safety. Though his health declined, Dave found incredible joy in his part-time work at The Wichita Gun Club. To be surrounded by like-minded patrons and share his knowledge and love for gunmanship that allowed him to pass along his knowledge and a legacy not often found nor easily acquired in this day and age. David had a motto and those closest to him know it by heart: Tough Times don’t last; Tough People do.
