Connell was born on Saturday, March 7, 1936 in McPherson, Kansas, the only child born to Mark Twain Cummings and Louella May (Mills) Cummings. He was united in marriage to Helen Catherine Traffas on May 7, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas. Survivors: wife of 61 years, Helen; children, Michelle Cummings and Kevin Lee (Denise) Cummings, all of Wichita; grandchildren, Michael Anthony (Maria) Birmingham, Gavin Lee Lucas, Christina Leigh (Matthew) Terrell, Courtney Marie Cummings, Kimberly Lee Cummings; great-grandchildren, Damon Birmingham, Devin Birmingham, Norah Jane Terrell, Lawson Samuel Terrell, Gage Lee Lucas, Addison Michelle Lucas.
