Barbara Ann (Wade) Carbon, age 93, went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 16, 2024. There she was reunited with her husband, Bernard “Bernie” Carbon; son, Ronald Carbon; daughter-in-law, Shirley Carbon; granddaughters, Ahna Pollock and Amanda Carbon; parents, Paul and Barbara Wade; brothers, Joseph Wade, P. Harry Wade, Gerald Wade, and Marion Wade.
Barbara was born in Phenix City, Alabama on September 7, 1931. Three months later moved to West Point, GA where she lived until age ten and moved to Macon, GA where she lived until she was married. Barbara graduated seventh grade from Union School and attended Lanier Jr. High for Girls, before graduating from A.L. Miller High School in Macon, GA. She attended BCCC where she majored in accounting.
Barbara met the love of her life CMSGT Bernard Carbon (USAF) while he was stationed at Robins AFB, GA and was married on June 8, 1952 in her home church, Pine Forest Baptist. She was baptized there and worked with Sunbeams, Girls Auxiliary and sung in the choir before moving to Wichita in October 1952. Barbara joined Immanuel Baptist Church upon arrival and was active in many ways. She taught several Sunday School classes, Training Union Classes, working in Sunbeams and Girls Auxiliary, Missionary Groups, sung in the choir, and did volunteer work in the church office. Also, whenever and wherever she was needed.
Barbara and her husband, Bernie, raised four wonderful sons, Bernard Jr. (Annette) of Warner Robins, GA, Ronald D. (deceased), Donald A. (Betsy) of Mulvane, Keith W. (Nicole) of Ft. Ann, NY. From this union they were blessed with 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Barbara and Bernie owned and operated Carbon Trophies & Engraving a number of years before moving to Latham, KS after purchasing a 160 acre ranch. There, her family enjoyed thirteen happy years and experienced raising cattle. While there, Barbara was a member of Latham Eastern Star while serving many phases including Worthy Matron. She participated in Kansas Pride Cities & Communities and during her time Latham won that dissension.
In 1980 her family moved to Douglass, KS, where she worked as Teller and Operating Officer in The Exchange State Bank. In 1983, Barbara moved to Washington DC with Bernie as he was transferred to The Pentagon for 4 years. While there, she met with President Reagan representing the spouses of all Enlisted Personnel of the USAF on National Spouses Day. Her family returned to Wichita in 1987. She served as Chaplin and president of the Gideons International Auxiliary.
Visitation, 1pm with Funeral Services following at 2pm, Tuesday, November 19, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Wichita. Burial will be in Douglass, KS.
